Exploring the Power of Drag as an Instrument of Hope

The art of drag is an age-old form of creative expression that discovers new identities, celebrates communities, plays with gender expression and provides visions for the future. Drag challenges the status quo, blurs the lines between gender and performance, and gives marginalised communities a chance to envision new possibilities. Drag for the Future is a 2-hour journey of creating your drag persona, from sharing the perceptions around drag through acting exercises and costume fitting to the fierce catwalk. It is a breathing space to explore your identity and develop a communal sense of hope.

This program is a deep immersion into our core themes: Deconstruction, Recognition and Celebration. In the course of the program, participants develop a deeper understanding of intersectional labelling, practice recognising self and others and develop a performance celebrating the depth and beauty of their humanity. The program will wrap up with a communal and individual steps ideation that will ensure its long-lasting effect.

(Deconstruction) This session is both our taster session and the first one in the TANA Light Program. It helps to unpack the language categories that are used to label us, in an inquisitive and physical way. It awakens awareness, and critical thinking and builds the common ground for collective vulnerability and unity.
